âThe women on this beach are mad!â Cole huffed dramatically as he plopped down in the sand next to Alexis. The sun was at its peak in the sky and blazed directly down on his already reddened cheeks. His exaggerated frown and sunburned nose made him appear ten years younger.
âIn what context, brother? Crazy or angry?â Alexis asked with mock curiosity as she sipped on her cold beverage. âWatching you drool over the woman in nothing but the pink bikini bottom, Iâm going to guess she was brazen enough to tell you off.â
âWell, yes. But I meant insane.â The woman who he had approached had dismissed him like he was some disgusting sea urchin. However, the women who had approached him were even more shameless than he had been. One had even grabbed his ass. Not that that bothered him too much, but there was something definitely wrong. âThis place just doesnât sit right with me.â
The hot sun continued on its afternoon path, and Alexis eventually finished her second drink. When the cabana boy brought her another, he brought Trent and Cole each a drink of their choice as well. The three of them sat and chitchatted for most of the early afternoon. Cole left at one point to take a dip in the ocean but came back early, feeling uncomfortable by the different standards of society. He once again mentioned the odd behavior of the genders.
âIâm telling you, guys,â Alexis started, weary of his skepticism, âweâre in a different part of the world than youâre used to. Rules and values are different here. I lost count of the strange looks I received while I was in Egypt because I wasnât wearing a headscarf. And I couldnât tell you how many times I was offered a cigarette as welcome in someoneâs home.â
âI suppose.â Cole didnât sound convinced.
Alexis picked up her things and packed them back into her tote. She was ready to leave and head home so she could prove to the others that their imaginations were simply running wild.
âWhere did Dante get off to?â Cole asked.
âThat dickhead isnât my problem.â Alexis shoved her towel into the bag, forcing it into the limited space. After slinging the tote over her shoulder, she said, âIn fact, I would be more than happy to leave him behind. Which is exactly what I plan on doing. Iâm going back to the hotel to shower, and then I'm calling a cab to take me to the airport. If you two want to stick around to wait on Dante, then be my guest.â
Trent chuckled as he watched Alexis strut away across the beach. Despite his desire to leave Dante behind as well, he knew he couldnât. Trent had been the one to fund the research that had led to Killianâs untimely demise. Dante knew that. The last thing he needed was to piss Dante off and have him go whispering in Alexisâs ear.
Trent and Cole sat beneath the umbrella for a while longer, catching up and drinking their beverages, commenting on some of the topless women who meandered by.
